QCWA WILD ROSE REPEATER

September 1, 2002

Where has the summer gone? It seems like yesterday I wrote the May 25th newsletter. Again this is a brief newsletter to inform everyone of QCWA Chapter 151 happenings at this time. Memberships are still rolling in and we would like to take this time to welcome our newest members and 'Friends' who have joined since the last newsletter.

Please welcome Grant Heimbecker, VE6GH, James (Al) Smith, VE6OX - (Life Member), Jean Smith, VE6CDS - (Life Member), Bill Metcalfe, VE6BF, Dr. Rick Zabrodski, VE6GK - (Life Member), John Smith, VE6AI, Irene Smith, VE6VN, Dick Sheppard, VE6TY and our supporting members by way of being a 'Friend' - Dave Junker, VE6DJJ, Wilf Mulder, VE7OHM, Gerald Caouette, VE6NAP, and Earl Grotzki, VE6ERL.

Chapter 151 would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Rick Zabrodski, VE6GK and Dick Sheppard, VE6TY for their generous donations. Hopefully no one has been missed and if so, please accept our apologies. We will include you in the next newsletter.

ANNUAL DINNER MEETING

As everyone now knows, the Annual Dinner Meeting is scheduled for September 21, 2002 and will be held at the # 264 Royal Canadian Legion - 1910 Kensington Road NW, Calgary. As you can all appreciate, ticket sales need to be confirmed in order for us to give an accurate head count for the Legion meal planning. It is imperative that we have your commitment by way of cheque or money order to QCWA Chapter 151 by September 18, 2002. Special arrangements can be made to make payment ($16.00 includes gratuity and GST), and pick up your tickets at the door, but your attendance and personal commitment must be communicated to either Les Card, VE6CA, , Ken Oelke, VE6AFO or Linda-Lou Oelke, VE6LGO There will be no ticket sales at the door so we ask that you plan accordingly.

We have also arranged with the Legion management for campers and motor homes to overnight on the parking lot. If this helps with motel/hotel costs, by all means take advantage of this offer.

Don't forget that we are honouring some of our members who have reached significant milestones in amateur radio and as well, we have a very interesting program lined up for your enjoyment. Our guest speaker is well known for his experiences in the RCAF and more recently with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). For more information on the dinner and our guest speaker see our website at:

And, for the over active there is dancing to live music, pool (billiards), and shuffle board all beginning at 9:00 pm.

QCWA WILD ROSE CHAPTER 151 WEBSITE

The Website has a new URL and can now be found at:

QCWA Chapter 151

The website guest book feature had to be discontinued because of unacceptable Spam finding its way into this area. For the sake of keeping the Chapter website clean of filth, I had no other choice but to remove it. As well, the free hits counter went out of business on August 26, 2002. I will investigate a new hits counter and guest book that will hopefully not attract the unmentionable graphics.

The website will always be a 'work in progress' and those who wish to contribute and or assist, will be most welcomed! More pages have been added and now include the membership list and archived newsletters. As time permits I will retype and add past newsletters of Chapter 151. Even better, maybe someone would like to lend a hand in retyping past newsletters and meeting minutes that can then be reformatted into html code for the website. If any of this information is still available in electronic form please let me know.

I would like to possibly include a bio and picture of each NEW member who joins QCWA Chapter 151. In this regard, don't be shy! Once you have joined QCWA Chapter 151 please send me a short bio and a digital picture of yourself. This will then be the beginning of "Chapter 151 Member Profiles".

It is our plan to have as much information as possible on the website pertaining to the history and future of Chapter 151. This will include past meeting minutes, going back to May 18, 1984 when Chapter 151 began, past newsletters written by our previous Secretaries and maybe some old pictures that can be scanned in for the website. As well, the QCWA Chapter 151 history book, as started by Bill Savage, VE6EO, would also be an excellent addition to the website.

Remember that this is your website and newsletter to further contribute to, so let us hear from you! We want to hear and learn about your activities such as, new DX worked, your experiences using PSK31 or other modes or, how about those exciting Sporadic "E" openings on 6 and 2 metres? And above all, please forward the new website address to your friends who might be interested in learning about and joining QCWA and Chapter 151.

CHAPTER 151 REPORT

As was reported in the last newsletter, Secretary Les Card, VE6CA sent a QCWA Chapter 151 report (along with picture) to hopefully appear in the next edition of the QCWA Journal. We actually got ahead of ourselves in thinking this report would appear in the Summer Edition. Instead our report should appear in the Fall Edition. Watch for it!

CHAPTER 151 AT RAC 2nd NATIONAL CONVENTION

QCWA Chapter 151 shared a table with the BCARCC (British Columbia Frequency Coordination Council) at the RAC Convention. We had a very professional looking display along with an excellent location at the venue. Although we only sold one membership at the Convention, many information brochures were handed out and as well many questions were answered with regard to the QCWA organization. Overall it was a very successful display which promoted both QCWA and Chapter 151.

Unfortunately QCWA National President elect, Croft Taylor VE3CT was unable to attend the convention. His wife took very ill with a heart attack during their travels to the convention. They got as far as Swift Current, SK where she had to be admitted to hospital. The last words from Croft were that they were still in Swift Current some six weeks later and he was hopeful his wife would soon be on the road to recovery for their journey back home to Ottawa. Croft was very disappointed that he could not be at the convention. We wish Croft and his wife all the very best for a speedy recovery.

CALGARY CLUBS' FLEAMARKET - OCTOBER 26, 2002

There will be a fleamarket in Calgary on October 26, 2002. The location will again be at the Eastside City Church located at 1320 Abbeydale Dr. SE. This is located at the very end of Memorial Dr East. Vendors can begin set up at 8:30 pm October 25 and again at 7:30 am October 26. For all other attendees the fleamarket opens at 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Admission is $2.00 and tables are $10.00. Organizations are free on a first come first served basis. Plans are to have a QCWA Wild Rose Chapter 151 - Alberta table display.
