Minutes of Chapter 151
Meeting Held On May 8, 2004 at Royal Canadian Legion #264 - Calgary, Alberta
President Ken Oelke VE6AFO called the meeting to order at 10:35am.
President's Report
Ken welcomed all those present. In attendance were 10 members, 7 friends and 21 guests. Ken stated he would keep his remarks extremely short.
Silent Key Report
VE6ABD - Paul Christiansen, died March 23, 2004 at age 81. Bruce Collisson, VE6BAC stated Paul was a Second World War vet with a DFC and never married. Ken Oelke stated he remembers Paul as an Industrial Arts teacher in Red Deer and a ham when Ken was working on getting his Amateur ticket.
Introduction of Guests and New Members
Ken Oelke recognized the following guests:

Secretary's Report
Al McNeil, VA7QQ pointed out that minutes of the September 20, 2003 meeting were available if anyone wanted one.
Moved: Jack Ambler, VE6CAQ Seconded: John Bley, VE6MAQ "to adopt the minutes of the Sept 20, 2003 meeting"
Discussion: Nil
Carried: with no objections.
There was no correspondence other than a few membership applications.
Al mentioned that he submits a quarterly report to the QCWA journal. (report can be viewed on our web site).
Al pointed out the display he brought of silent key Al Simpson, VA6AS with many very prestigious awards over his lifetime. A true tribute of dedication to Amateur Radio.
Financial Report
John Smith, VE6AI reported that this report is $169 less than the last report. John submitted the report to the president and secretary.

QCWA Long Service & Meritorious Awards
The president awarded the following Long Service awards:
John Smith, VE6AI - for 50 years as licensed Amateur
Ralph Parker, VE7XF - for 50 years as licensed Amateur
Earle Smith, VE6NM - for 55 years as licensed Amateur.
Les Card, VE6CA - for 65 years as licensed Amateur.
Dick Sheppard, VE6TY - for 70 years as licensed Amateur.
Old Business
Our bid for the 2006 QCWA convention has been granted. Ken mentioned that we need to put together a "convention committee". It is expected approximately 150 will attend.
Ken stated he has registration forms for this year's QCWA convention in Ottawa in October if anyone is interested.
RAC Affiliation has been completed. Our chapter is now officially affiliated with Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC). We will however require a constitution and bylaws for our Chapter. Ken suggested we use the one recommended by RAC, which is available on the RAC web site.
Ongoing Business
The Chestermere Lake Middle school teacher, Brian Jackson, has received his Basic license. His call sign is VE6JBJ.
A Power point presentation has been sent to Scouts Canada regarding the Youth Education program.
The Principal of the William Aberhart School has been approached regarding the RAC Youth Education Program.
New business
QCWA National convention for 2006
Ken mentioned that we need to start identifying who will be in charge of which function for the 2006 convention. A list of candidates and functions will be identified in the near future. You may be asked to assist. Ken passed out three logo designs for the 2006 convention and asked everyone to indicate the one they liked.
Ken stated he gave up on the QCWA net on 3747 kHz because no one ever checked in. There was some discussion on nets including using echo link or IRLP for nets.
Tom Kelly, VE6TDK suggested we sponsor a "kids" or "teen" net on repeater VE6QCW. Liz VA6LIZ volunteered to start off as net controller and Chris VA6CJC volunteered to be a backup from time to time. No dates or times were suggested for the start of this net. More coordination is required from someone.
50/50 draw
The 50/50 draw was held and the winner was John Bley, VE6MAQ.
Door prizes
The door prizes were drawn. The winner of a one-year RAC membership was Brian Jackson, VE6JBJ. The winner of a QCWA tea towel was Theresa Dickinson.

Presentation
Liz (VA6LIZ) showed an extremely interesting presentation on her trip to the Johnson Space Center. Liz is a grade 11 student and has aspirations of going to University and getting a degree in Space engineering.
Brian Jackson, VE6JBJ, described how the RAC Youth Program was working out at his school in the Chestermere Lake Middle School.
