Ongoing Business

The Chestermere Lake Middle School RAC Youth Education Program, with a ham station, will likely be moved to Airdrie as grade six science teacher Brian Jackson VE6JBJ, has been transferred to the Airdrie Ralph McCall school. He begins teaching there in the middle of August, 2005. No word regarding the application to contact the International Space Station (ISS) has been received. The ham station may be kept at the Chestermere Lake Middle School in order to stay in the queue, therefore avoiding delay for the ISS contact. Once the contact has been made the station will be moved to Airdrie. There has been interest indicated by Bishop Grandin High school to set up an amateur station.

A Teen/Kids net has been started on January 12th, 2005. Tyler McCoy, VE6TGM, took this task on and began a youth net on the FARS repeater VA6CTV (145.129 -600). The net is held each Wednesday at 7:00 P.M.

Program

A very interesting program was presented by Don Moss, VE6APT, and entitled TV Production - Behind the Scenes and Beyond. Don took Animal Biology at the University of Calgary but also took electronics at SAIT at night. He met hams and got interested in broadcasting and when he didn't get into medicine got a job with the CBC through Marty Raine, VE6TS. He worked 13 years for the CBC, making videos for the news (News Director for CBC), until the CBC was shut down in Calgary in 1990. He was devastated but started to free lance as a technical director using video equipment, planning where to set up cameras for Olympics, hockey and other games. He installed a camera for a WWF event to give a view from above, which cost $60,000.00.

A video showed numerous scenes taken by NBC to illustrate how TV has affected our lives over the past century. He said HDTV (High Definition TV) would make present TV dinosaurs with great pictures and 360 degree sound. For example, 26 cameras were required to produce HDTV at the Athens Olympics where 90 cameras would be required for producing regular NTSC TV. The next development after HDTV will be 3D TV. Another video showed beach volley ball at the Sydney Australia Olympics.
