S-19R SKY BUDDY

The 1938 S-19 SKY BUDDY was the second in the SKY BUDDY series, dating from 1935. It was a repackaging of the 1935 5-T SKY BUDDY using octal tubes.

The S-19 was produced for only a short time in 1938 and is quite rare today. The S-19R is similar in appearance, but a totally re-designed radio with expanded frequency coverage and bandspread not incorporated in the S-19.

The S-19R is the third and last of the SKY BUDDY series and the most common. Tubes used were 80 rectifier, 41 audio output, 76 BFO, 6Q7 second detector-first audio, 6K7 I.F. and a 6K8 oscillator-mixer. There were two versions of the S-19R, the early had three slide switches on the panel, and used a 6K7 and 6Q7. The late version had two slide switches and one toggle switch (the send /receive switch), and used a 6SK7 and 6SQ7.

The S-19R in this picture is a 1939 late version.
